How It Works

Why the need?

H&S regulations vary enormously between countries and even regions within a country. This means that auditing is time consuming, expensive and inconsistent. Established audit processes are not always practical for some organisations.

In addition up to now, only the larger travel companies, who have the economies of scale, have tended to check properties using their own teams of consultants and / or in-house staff.

With little or no sharing of this data, this has led to duplication of work, with a consequential significant cost shouldered by these travel companies. This model is unsustainable for travel dot coms and dynamic packagers, who are using a far more diverse portfolio of accommodation providers.

Travelsafe has been devised to provide a single annual self audit, or more preferably a full audit, whereby the cost is borne by the property provider. The audit reports are available on-line, at www.travelsafe.biz, for any company that wishes to contract with this property.

What types of audits are there?

1 - A simple on-line self assessment for hotels which takes no more then twenty minutes to complete.

  • Hotels complete the self audit by clicking this link. This can be encouraged when the contractor is with the hotelier.
  • Travel companies can provide electronic lists of contact details for their properties. this will be treated in the strictest confidence. Travelsafe will email the properties on your behalf, requesting that they complete the self audit.
  • Scores, ratings and a pdf report of the self-audit are available within seconds of completion. The property owner has the option to not post the report to the database if they are not satisfied with their safety ranking.

2 - A full inspection undertaken by a trained and experienced docleaf H&S consultant. This in-depth audit covers 1,000 points and can take up to a whole day to complete. The fee for this is payable by the hotel.

What information does Travelsafe hold?

  • Hotel profile information, star rating, location, type, chain etc.
  • Self audit results and recommendations reports
  • Full audit results and recommendation reports
  • Audit results ranked by gold, silver, bronze or non-compliant
  • Audit results categorised by fire, hygiene, swimming pool, child and general safety

Who monitors recommendations?

Recommendations made following the in-person audits will be followed up by the travelsafe team. Progress reports can be accessed by registered users.

What about the hotels that fall into Bronze or non-complaint categories?

It is the registered users responsibility to be aware of the H&S status of any hotels they contract with.

Who can access the information?

  • Access to the site is password protected and is restricted to the travel trade
  • Hotels can only view their own audit scores, reports and status of implementation of recommendations
  • Travel arrangers can view all hotel audit results that are on the database
  • In certain circumstances access to hotel reports can be restricted
